Top tips on how to keep healthy hands and nails
Keeping your hands and nails looking healthy and soft is easier than you think. Our hands end up getting a lot of abuse - they are subjected to the harsh cold winds in the winter and the hot sun in the summer, as well as a lot of manual labour, whether it's carrying heavy shopping bags or lifting weights at the gym. This is why we have put together a brief guide to how you can keep your nails and skin healthy.
The first thing you should do is exfoliate your hands using a salt scrub. The scrub will get rid of any dry or dead skin on your hands, thus leaving them soft and smooth. This salt scrub also helps to eliminate any skin oils which means any hand cream you now rub in will be absorbed much better. It's also a good idea to wash your hands in warm water because this helps to open up your skin's pores which also helps to absorb creams better. The next step is to rub in an intensive hand moisturiser like a body butter cream. It is a rather thick cream so make sure you don't touch anything like your clothes or your hair and don't be tempted to go on your PC and play bingo or login to Facebook because you'll end up with a sticky keyboard.
Once your hands have absorbed the cream it's time to pamper your nails. Firstly give them a good scrub with a nail brush to eliminate any dirt and dry skin. If your cuticles are quite long then dunk your fingertips in some warm water. This will help to soften up the skin. Push the skin back using a nail file, then cut away the skin using nail scissors. You can make your nails look naturally shiny and smooth by using a foam buffer. Then paint your nails with a pale pink nail varnish and top it with a layer of clear polish to give them that extra shine.
